Rattlesnake Museum and Gift Shop

The Rattlesnake Museum and Gift Shop is the perfect place for both kids and adults alike. It is located at 202 San Felipe St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104.  It’s a shop so much more than just a tourist trap selling tacky souvenirs and cheesy post cards. Yes, it does have all of that but it also has exhibits you can enjoy without feeling like you’re on an overpriced field trip at a zoo. The museum has amazing animals, interactive exhibits, educational programs, live presentations and more to keep you coming back again and again! The Rattlesnake Museum is located in the small town of Capitan, New Mexico which is about 3 hours south of Albuquerque. The town only has around 500 residents and less than 10 restaurants. If you don’t know where Capitan is or really care about that then it doesn’t really matter because there are other wonderful places in the state to visit too. Even if there wasn’t, we think you will still love exploring this little town with its historical buildings, artsy architecture and charming shops.

What to Expect at the Rattlesnake Museum and Gift Shop

The museum is located in a historic building that was originally built in 1916. It was once one of the most important ranches in New Mexico. The museum houses hundreds of snakes from all over the world as well as other animals like lizards and insects. Your favorite childhood snakes can be found like the Corn Snake and the Ball Python. The museum also has many types of snakes that are more dangerous that others like the Black Rat Snake, the Desert Boa, the Mojave Rattlesnake and the Redland Rattlesnake. There are many interactive, educational displays that teach all about the amazing animals as well as how venom works. The museum also features live snake shows and other special events.
